InForm runs its checks on your own machine. It does not upload your document or store your writing. When it verifies a source, it sends only the reference entry, never your prose. The little it collects is anonymous usage counts, with no document text and nothing that identifies you.

Does InForm change my writing?
No. InForm never changes your writing. Its review is non-destructive: it marks what needs attention and explains why, and the only thing it ever adds to your document is a comment, and only when you choose. It never rewrites a sentence or auto-corrects a citation.
Does InForm send my paper, or its text, to an AI model?
No. The formatting checks run on your own machine, and source verification is done by looking references up in bibliographic databases, not by an AI model. Your prose is never sent anywhere. Only the reference entry itself leaves your machine, and only to confirm the work exists.
What does source verification actually do?
For each work you cite, InForm looks it up across several scholarly databases and resolvers to confirm the source exists, checks whether a cited DOI resolves, flags works that have been retracted or corrected, and notes details that disagree with the authoritative record. It reconciles more than one source before drawing a conclusion.
Which databases does InForm use to verify sources?
Depending on the kind of work, InForm consults Crossref, OpenAlex, ERIC, Google Books, and Open Library, resolves DOIs directly, checks retraction and correction records, and for web sources checks the live page and web archives. Books are checked against book catalogues, journal articles against article indexes.
What happens when InForm cannot verify a legitimate source?
It says so plainly. Some legitimate works are hard to confirm automatically, such as unusual books, gray literature, older material, or local documents. In those cases InForm reports that it could not verify the source rather than claiming it is fake. It treats "cannot verify" and "does not exist" as different things, so an inability to verify is not presented as proof a source is fake.

Inside Microsoft Word, as an add-in, on Windows, Mac, and Word on the web. The formatting checks run on your own machine; only source verification reaches out, and only with the reference entry, never your prose.
Can faculty use InForm to review student papers?
Yes. InForm works on your own writing and also gives an instructor a review surface for reading a student's paper, where findings and source checks can be turned into comments or a feedback list. The judgment always stays with the reviewer.

APA 7 today. Support for additional styles is planned, and beta participants help decide what comes next.
